It is with great sadness that the family of Loretta (Wall) Bessey announce her peaceful passing on May 3, 2025 at Western Health’s Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by her loving family.
Loretta was a private, humble, and modest woman who cherished the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed berry picking, hiking, gardening, baking, visiting the cabin, cleaning, and exploring every mall she could find. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. A devoted servant of God and her church, she took great pride in instilling these values in her children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind fond and loving memories for her devoted husband and best friend, Alonzo; daughters Sandy Andrews (Terry) and Lorna Hanlon (Craig); grandchildren Megan and Mikyla Andrews, and Sara and Leah Hanlon; sister Madeline Chaytor (Lou); sisters-in-law Joan Bessey-Firth (Kevin), Olive Wall, and a very special sister-in-law, Bertha Bessey, who was like a second mother to her children. She will also be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, and her wide circle of friends, both old and new.
We, the family, would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Rorke (St. John’s) and Bonnie Decker R.N. (St. Anthony) who guided her care with expertise and compassion. Many thanks goes to all the staff at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony as well as the Nursing staff at the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Hospital. It would be impossible to list everyone who supported our family over the last several years, you know who you are, and we will be forever grateful.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place from Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony from 7-9 pm the evening of Friday, May 9, 2025. A small celebration of life will take place at the funeral home chapel on May 10th at 2 PM for family and friends with Major Stokes officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations are graciously accepted to the Canadian Cancer Society in her memory.
